About the UK Archive Sector Survey 2025
This survey was conducted in partnership with National Records of Scotland, the Scottish Council on Archives, Welsh Government, Archives and Records Council Wales and Public Record Office of Northern Ireland.
We received 330 responses from across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and this included a vast range of services such as local authorities, universities, charities, museums and galleries, schools, businesses, arts organisations and more.
The survey partners commissioned the consultants Kazky to analyse the results of the survey and produce a UK-wide report. There are also separate reports for local authorities, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and each region of England. The UK report and Wales report are both available in Welsh.
You can use this data to benchmark your performance against other services (especially using the PowerBI dashboard below), inform your business planning and gather evidence to support funding applications. Equally, the survey allows all the survey partners to identify areas where archives need further support. We can then advocate on behalf of archives to funders and stakeholders at local, regional, and national levels.
